b) Orientate to carry out positive changes in the way of living
c) Respect all the treatments given by other doctors, medicine or surgery
d) Apply safe techniques which do not represent any form of risk
2. Therapists must render a service to humanity with total respec for the human race dignity, treating the individual as a whole person: body, mind and spirit. ("Holos" in Greek means "Total or complete" ) The treatment must always be aimed for the benefit of the patient.
3. Therapists are constantly updating and expanding their abilities and knowledge, learning new techniques and taking the necessary trainings, at the same time keeping their patients informed of the advances .
4. Therapists must always search to find the real cause of the illness, and not only treat the symphtoms presented by the patient.
5. A Holistic therapist strives efforts to establish: what type of patient is presenting the illness, as well as which type of illness is presented by the patient.
6. It is prepreable to diagnose and treat patients as unique individuals, and not as members of a determined caterogy of illness.
7. Whenever possible, therapist may suggest the person to recognize and modify negative habits of living, in order to prevent the person from taking extreme options or drugs to heal himself.
8. Prevention should always be prefered instead of waiting for a need of treatment, besides prevention is less expensive. When the patient sees that he does not have to spend much, this fact contributes to awaken the persons own self healing capacities (Psycho-neuro-inmunology or Spontaneous regression response ).
9. Illness is considered as a manifestation of a misfunction of an individual as a whole being, and not as an isolated event.
10. In most situations, autonomy of the patient must be respected and never impose a decision. The therapist must recognize that the patient has the right to decide the type of treatment he prefers, in which case therapists must : - guide and educate the patients so they will be updated on the advances of science - provide the the patients with several options - encourage the patients to share the responsibility of their own wellbeing and self care.
11. Therapists must never make definite promises or assure certainty of complete healing to a patient, because what leads to the final result, is the treatment together with the patient´s attitude, self awareness and willingness.
. 12. The ideal relation between patient and therapist is to consider the needs, desires, conscience and perspective of the patient .
13. The quality of the confident relation established between patient and therapist is a definite factor to achieve the objective of recovery.
14. The fact of facing illness, pain or death risk are opportunities of learning and growing inasmuch for the patient as well as for the therapist..
15. Holistic therapist should encourage patients to awaken their own power of healing through self care, self reliance, self esteem, love, hope, good humor, enthusiasm, in order to liberate and set aside the toxic consequences of hostility, shame, greed, depression, prolonged fear, anger, or sadness.
16. Unconditional love is life´s most potent medicine. Therapist must make efforts to adopt an attitude of unconditional care towards the patient, to themselves, as well as to other therapists involved in the case.
17. Optimum health is much more than only the absence of sickness, it is the conscious pursue of the highest quality levels of the spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical surroundings, as well as the positive social aspects of human experiences.
18. Therapists never reveal confidential information trusted to them along the treatment, unless it is absolutely necessary to protect the well being of the individual or his community. Therapists practicing holistic medicine must always share some time, donating treatments to those individuals who do not count with enough resources, thus helping the human beings as well as the community in general.
